What Will I Be When I Grow Up?

The next few unit kind of overlap a little. We will talk about what we want to be when we grow up. Many of the kids want to be doctors, vets, policemen, firemen, teachers and we had a few cheerleaders. We will also talk about safety, fire prevention, and communication. We will work on learning our address and phone number, too.

But first I have some news to share with you.
Today Ms. Hall was handcuffed and found guilty.....

She is guilty of being a good sport and for letting Officer Tindle demonstrate how he handcuffs someone.

He said he left the keys at the police station. Ha Ha
Actually, Officer Tindle came to 5K to talk about being a police officer and he let the kiddos check out some of his gear.

He told us a lot of stories about being a policeman and some
of your kids had a few stories to share with the class too. Ha Ha
  (Just Kidding :o )

One important thing we learned is:
Policeman and policewomen are our friends and they are here to
help us and keep us safe.

Another real-life hero who keeps us safe is the fireman.
Fire Inspector Gene Bishop came to PDS to talk to us about fire prevention. He encouraged us to have a fire escape plan at home with two ways to get out of our house.

Fireman Hardin and Fireman Watridge helped Reagan suit up in their fireman gear.

We also learned about crawling out under smoke trapped in the house, and about Stop, Drop, and Roll. Once we are outside at our safe meeting place, we should call 911.

Finally, we got to see a fireman in his uniform, mask, and air tank.
He may look frightening but now we know he wears all of that to keep him safe from the fire and so he can help us too.

We are so thankful for firemen!!!
After our rest time we practiced our phone numbers and 911 on our home made cell phones.

(OH I wish I could have taped all their conversations that day.)
