That's the Shape of Things

We had a great time learning about shapes this week.
We are also working hard on reading shape words.
We ordered the numbers we are learning with
help from our caterpillar....
.....and with help from a friend too.

 The Smile of Success!
Our snack time was a yummy way to reinforce
what we have been learning this week.
Mrs. Jackson used "square" scarves in music class.  We listened and moved our scarves to the music.

Sometimes we moved fast.
Sometimes we moved slow.
.....but mostly fast.

In Spanish class, Mrs. McKnight showed us
la bandera rectangulo from Mexico.

We have also started working on writing numbers.
These kiddos love using clipboards while
practicing their number writing.

It was too pretty not to take a little break.
They love hanging around on the playground.
Oh Yeah, I'm "punny" that way.
This has nothing to do with anything but they can't
help but bring these locust (cicada) shells to me when they
find them.  We spend a good bit of time observing them.
I dare you to ask them about that.
I was really impressed with their cutting
skills. Circles are not easy but they did an
AWESOME job.

I really love their finished project!!
I just don't have enough room to display all
their masterpieces!
Hurricane Isaac produced a little indoor time for us.
Play is such hard work but they learn so much!
I am always so amazed at what they create.
They were so proud of themselves.  They made
their tower touch the ceiling!  Color me impressed!
Ryan built his truck and "drove" it all
over the place. There's something about boys and their wheels.
Rachel created some cool pictures with the tangrams.

Amaia just completed here "shape frog".  Stop
by and see our speckled frogs on their speckled logs.
And we might even sing you a song!
We always end our week with share time.
They stand in front of the class and give
clues about their objects.  The others have to really LISTEN
to all the clues and guess what's in the bag.
Some are very clever.  They even "fool the teacher" but
come Friday afternoon, that's really not saying much. lol

Sorry I missed Catherine's picture but
I was all caught up in guessing. She had
a really good one.
Katie's share was a big hit.  She even told the
kids about the movie but she said she couldn't tell us how it
ended because she hasn't seen it all yet. We didn't spoil it for her.

Doesn't that look like a teacher in the making. Too Cute!

Color Week

Please stop by and check our our colorful room!

This week we started our centers.
We divided into 3 groups; Phonics,
Writing, and Craft/Math.
Here are some kinders working at the craft/math table.
They sorted, counted, graphed and then ate their M&Ms. YUM!!

I had no trouble getting them to complete
their work today.
Nicolle did an AWESOME job working at the
writing table.  She read the color words
and then drew pictures of things with those colors.
Drawing is the first step in becoming a great writer.
If they finish their work before it is time to switch
tables, they can choose a quiet activity like reading
or working file folder games.

Our third table works with me. We go over letters, sounds
and letter formation. This week and next we will be
working on short vowel sounds. (a, e, i, o, u)
Today we listened for the vowel sounds in the middle
of short words. I have great expectations for this class.
They are off to a great start....thanks to some wonderful
4k teachers, 3k teachers and parents!

Elmer the Elephant

On Friday, we read "Elmer". This colorful
pachyderm provide much conversation and discussion. Not only
was it an excellent example for the letter of the day "E", we learned new vocabulary like - herd, camouflage, unique and patchwork. We also learned that God made us the way we are and He made us unique for a reason. Be the best YOU you can be!
They were all eager to create their own
colorful elephant.

Pete the Cat
Our favorite part of the week was when
Pete the Cat came to visit us in his white shoes.
Even when he stepped in piles of strawberries,
blueberries, mud and water, he never got upset.
He just went along, singing his song because
it's ALL GOOD.
Check out this link on the home page to hear the song....if you dare. Beware! It is a catchy tune!
